  • Fall 2022 - Energy Economics Course (ARE 4995)

New Undergraduate Course in Energy Markets, Policy, and Regulation, Fall Semester 2022

This course is designed to introduce students to the economics of energy markets, with an emphasis on how various policies and regulations affect these markets. The focus of the course will be on classic economic models and their application to relevant energy markets.

Economics plays a vital role in the functioning of the energy sector as well as in the design and implementation of energy policies and regulations that address sustainability challenges. The course, therefore, applies economics to addressing critical issues in energy markets. The course will cover a wide range of theoretical and empirical topics addressing energy demand and supply, energy prices, the environmental consequences of energy consumption and production, and the regulation and design of energy systems and markets. Students will obtain a thorough understanding of the economic theory that underlies energy markets and learn how to assess the economic effects of energy policy changes.
