Beyond the PhD is excited to welcome Dr. Leia Shuhaibar, a Medical Science Liaison at Ferring Pharmaceuticals, a pharmaceutical company in reproductive medicine. Dr. Shuhaibar completed her Ph.D. studies at UConn Health in 2015 in Dr. Laurinda Jaffe’s lab investigating the signaling pathway controlling oocyte meiosis in mouse ovarian follicles. Later, as a Postdoc fellow and Assistant Professor, she investigated clinical applications of their reproductive biology research and translated their discoveries into developing a new therapy for bone growth disease. Leia also collaborated with UConn fertility clinic and worked as an Embryologist in the IVF lab helping infertility patients. For family reasons, Leia and her family moved to Texas where she took a 1-year break, taking care of her children and searching for new career opportunities. In August 2021, Leia started her position at Ferring, where she is applying her research, teaching, and embryology experience to support physicians treating infertility patients. Dr. Shuhaibar will be giving Beyond the PhD’s first hybrid seminar about her career path TODAY Tuesday, May 17th at 1PM ET. Registration for the event is free and is open to anybody interested.
