  • Conservation Genomics Research Opp - Apply by 3/25

Do you love the Earth? Want to see it continue to flourish into the future? Come join the Wegrzyn-Bucklin-O’Neill labs’ grant funded research into species of local conservation concern – “Earth and Its Future”. You will work both 1:1 and with a small team of graduate student mentors and undergraduates during academic year (AY) 2022-23 to sequence, assemble, and analyze the first genome for a species of concern (threatened populations). There’s even funding over winter break ($14/hr for 15 hrs/week)! In addition to gaining skills in molecular biology, population genomics, bioinformatics, and conservation biology, you will also receive mentorship in applying for summer funding (e.g. UConn’s OUR SURF, IDEA, EEB URGs Undergraduate Summer Fellowship) and partake in discussions about how conservation genomics can combat climate change.

No prior research experience required. Applications from students from underrepresented groups and students who are interested in continuing research after AY22-23 will be prioritized. Positions available on Storrs and Avery Point campuses. Students should be able to sign up for 3 research credits per semester. To apply please send your resume, campus (Storrs or Avery Point), and a brief paragraph describing your interest and experience to Michelle Neitzey (michelle.neitzey@uconn.edu) by March 25, 2022.
