  • 3/22 Learn how to get into Med School with Dr. Nieves

How can premeds balance academic and personal life to achieve their top goal?

Is it worth it – financially and otherwise – to become a medical doctor?

These and more are burning questions in the backs of minds of every pre-med student. Everybody deals with these questions in different ways. That being said, we here at NSCS are very big on having mentors, on having people in your corner who have been where you are and through years of experience, have the answers to these questions. We feel that none of you should have to do this alone. We invite you to join NSCS on Tuesday, March 22 at CHEM A203 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm for a conversation between NSCS President Moe Alomari and Dr. John Nieves, emergency medicine physician at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford and an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at UConn Health. This is a unique opportunity for pre-med students to ask questions and to learn and speak with a true master of his craft Dr. Nieves. Perhaps most importantly, it is an opportunity to have the feelings of self-doubt we all inevitably face as pre-med students stamped out of our psyches forever! In learning why Dr. Nieves decided to become a doctor, and how putting in the work to do so affected his personal life, there is no doubt in our minds that his story will resonate with many, if not most of you, and will have parallels with many of your own stories, stories that are still being written! We will also have interactive activities!

Dr. John Nieves earned his medical degree at Stony Brook School of Medicine and completed residency at UConn affiliated Hartford Hospital. He subsequently graduated with honors from Dickinson College with a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and a Certificate in Health Studies..
