    EPSY 1450W Mind-Body Health
    Summer Session I & II (Online)
    EPSY 1450W-- Meets the criteria for a Content Area 2 and a W Course. Get both requirements completed in only one month over this summer, ONLINE!
    Learn and engage in an interactive experience mind-body health interventions to impact change and promote Mind Body Health.
    The role of the mind and its effects on subjective well-being (e.g., happiness, stress, depression, anxiety) and the physical body will be explored during this course. The past history and current literature supporting the mind-body connection, assessment, and intervention will be presented. Implications for understanding mind-body health relative to quality of life will be emphasized.

    Engage and Learn about Various Mind-Body Health Treatments:

    Deep Breathing & Standardized Progressive Muscle Relaxation
    Direct instruction in deep breathing exercises, tensing and relaxing muscles throughout the body to promote relaxation.

    Mindfulness & Culturally Sensitive Meditation
    An overview of the philosophy of mindfulness and various meditative scripts designed with an awareness of various cultural groups.  

    Relaxation & Guided Imagery
    Direct instruction and opportunities to practice RGI.

    Gratitude Writing & Written Emotional Expression
    Direct instruction and opportunities to practice these writing techniques.

    Yoga & Physical Activity
    Guidance and resources for the integration of these techniques.

    Nature (Eco Health) & Nutrition
    Strategies for integrating nature for wellness and promoting healthy eating.

    Self Monitoring, Video Self-Modeling & Virtual Reality
    An introduction to these learning technologies and a variety of applications, as well as guidance on creating videos and using VR with easily accessible tech.

    Taught by Dr. Melissa Bray (Professor, Licensed Psychologist, and Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist, Certified School Psychologist).
