  • Pay for your Medical Fees w/ an Extension

    Hey everyone,

The Student Medical Fund Initiative (SMFI) built an extension designed to pay for UConn Student Medical Fees at Student Health and Wellness!

As a quick recap, the mission of SMFI is to help student medical needs. Our goal is to reduce the financial burden of medical needs and make students less financially scared to visit the doctor’s office. We will do this by creating an extension that replaces the New Tab page on Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge to one that we designed; which contains useful utilities such as UConn apps, Notes section and a to do list! We then plan to place ads on top of the New Tab Page such that every time someone opens a new tab, we generate some revenue. Then this revenue will be sent to the student health services to refund student medical costs. In other words, this extension will pay for student medical expences here at UConn!

The extension, called the SMFI Tab, can be found here. However, if you install the extension, you will find that there are no ads on it - thereby no revenue being generated. The reason for this is because we do not have an advertisement account. We need an advertisement account to place ads on this extension. However in order to have an advertisement account, we first need a baseline amount of traffic to our extension.

If we could get atleast a 1,000 users for this extension, which is less than 5% of UConn students, that would be enough for us to get an advertisement account and start placing ads and start generating revenue.

You can find more information about this extension at our website: https://www.smfinitiative.com/
