“The Two Phillis Wheatleys: On Archival Gestures and Black Women's Poetries of Mutual Witness"
Please join us for an interactive presentation on the legacies of Phillis Wheatley, first known African American to publish a book of poems, and the 1973 Phillis Wheatley Poetry Festival. The festival, convened in honor of the 200th anniversary of Wheatley's book publication, was organized and attended by a luminary collective of Black women poets that included Lucille Clifton, Audre Lorde, June Jordan, Nikki Giovanni, Alice Walker, Sonia Sanchez, and many others.
