  • Summer Camp Counselor

    Join the BRAIN Camp team for a fun and rewarding summer as a Camp Counselor! BRAIN Camp combines reading and math intervention, research, and summer camp activities. Camp will run on UConn’s campus this summer for 5 weeks. Approximately 40 Campers, between the ages of 8-11, will attend the camp. The campers will: (1) participate in reading or math lessons; (2) participate in fun summer activities; and (3) take part in brain scan sessions to see how instruction changes the brain.

    We are looking for highly motivated UConn undergraduates with leadership skills, who have experience working with children in camp settings, education, or a related field.

    This position requires availability for the duration of the camp.

     

    Work Hours

    • Camp session: July11 - August 12 (weekdays only)

    • Typical summer hours: Monday – Friday: 8:00 am 4:00 pm

    • Trainings: The position also requires attendance of pre-camp events/trainings that will be scheduled in May and/or June. These may take up to 5 hours/day (estimated 4-6 days in total over two weeks).

    • Other events: Attend post-camp events to wrap up any logistics required.

     

    Essential Job Responsibilities

    • Attend and satisfy all training requirements

    • Provide group supervision of campers (1:10 instructor to student ratio) with attention to behavior and group management, safety, security, and skill development.

    • Implement BRAIN Camp activities that are planned by the program, e.g., working with students on academic activities, leading activities.

    • Follow scripted programming, when required

    • Provide a safe, inclusive, and fun learning environment while serving as a positive role model for campers.

    • Assist and support the Camp Director and all teammates as needed in a collegial manner.

     

    Compensation

    • Instructors will be compensated at a competitive rate on an hourly basis, including the training period.

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Previous experience working with children in an educational or camp setting.
