  • 1/31 UCAELI Language Support Course Available

    Dear UConn Community,

UConn's American English Language Institute (UCAELI) will be offering Language Support courses in the Spring 2022 semester. Language Support courses are designed for international UConn students who have at least an intermediate level of English proficiency. Courses meet twice a week for a total of 3 hours for 6 weeks. These courses are open to any active UConn student with a Peoplesoft number including: UCAELI Students, Graduate students, Undergraduates, and Non-Credit.

    Oral Communication and Presentation Skills

    • Days: Mondays and Wednesdays
    • Dates: January 31  – March 9 (6 weeks)
    • Time: 8:00am – 9:30am
    • Fee: $250
    • Location: Online

This course will help participants develop oral skills necessary for academic success as a student, instructor, or presenter, as well as discussion and conversation skills necessary for every day communication. In the first session, participants will work on identifying problem areas and setting goals. The specific contents will then be determined based on the group’s needs and interests, but usually will include an overview of American English pronunciation, characteristics of effective presentations, expectations of American academic audiences, and aspects of cross-cultural communication. Participants will work on a variety of strategies to evaluate and develop their language and presentation skills. Participants will leave with a plan for continuing improvement beyond the course.
