DRAM 4135W: Staging Americans: U.S. Cultures through Performance

An examination of 21st century performance from global majority theatre-makers, STAGING AMERICANS is a seminar consisting of
the reading analysis and discussion of selected plays and performances by contemporary theater-makers from the global majority.
The class will analyze these works to identify the variety of themes, forms, and aesthetics within four categories: Language as
Identity; Intersection of Arts and Activism; Gender Narratives; and Social/Cultural Impact. Works by historically marginalized theater
artists will be highlighted throughout the semester.
