  • FERPA Pin Codes and Other Privacy Tools

    The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) generally protects your student records and information from being shared. At times, you may wish for another individual, such as a parent/guardian or employer, to be able to access or discuss your student records. However, UConn generally needs your prior written consent to do so. We have several tools in place for you to document your consent.

    You may log into the FERPA Designee Pin Page (FDPP) to grant permission for University staff to discuss  certain categories of information with your “designees” (e.g., a parent, a guardian, a significant other, employer). Students will enter the following information into the FERPA Designee Pin Page for each person they choose to designate:

    1) proper name (first and last name) of your designee;

    2) 4-digit pin code per designee;

    3) the categories of information the student authorizes the University staff to discuss.

    After the FERPA Designee Pin Page is completed, students should communicate their 4-digit pin code to their designee. When a designee contacts certain centralized offices, they will be asked to provide their name and their 4-digit pin code. Managing your designees’ pin codes is a quick process and permissions may always be modified by you in the future if you change your mind.

     Please note, pin codes will only allow for your designees to speak with the University.  If you want to allow others to view select screens in the Student Administration system, you can assign them Delegated Access by following the instructions found here. To allow for others to pay your fee bill online, you can create Authorized Users within the TouchNet Bill & Payment portal. Instructions for creating Authorized Users for bill pay can be found here.

     Please remember it is a violation of UConn policy to share your NetID password with anyone.
