  • Join the UConn Autism Spectrum Alliance (ASA)

Hi! A lot of people may agree that it is really hard to make friends when going to College. For someone with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), having a disability which makes communication and socializing difficult makes this even harder. As someone with Autism myself I have experienced this first hand. I have gone to Autism support groups in the past and I felt that it was nice meeting people who you can relate to. Therefore, I would like to create a club on campus to give people on the spectrum a chance to having something like that as well. While the main goal for the club is to act a safe space for people on the spectrum, anyone who is interested in joining is free to join!

The ASA’s (UConn Autism Spectrum Alliance) main focus will be to provide a safe space for students on the spectrum to connect. We would host fun activities based upon group member interests. For example, a video game night or movie night. Another focus of the club will be fundraising. The goal of fundraising is to raise funds for ASD organizations run by people on the spectrum, such as, the Autism Self Advocacy Network. This will be an optional part of the club and only for people who are interested in this endeavor. Fundraising will be done through methods like Local Restaurant Partnerships  and T-Shirt Fundraisers.

While we aren't on campus yet I want to get an early start at getting ready. I created a discord https://discord.gg/ssuBBmSQRb. It would be great if people joined and if interested I am looking for people to fill Eboard roles for the club.
