    Sign up for COMM 3598 Food Marketing with Dr.Svetlana Kalnova!

    Students in Food Marketing will have the opportunity to 

    • Learn about the impact of Big Food on food marketing, children, and teens.
    • Develop critical skills to assess food advertising tactics used by the industry.
    • Understand the impact of food marketing on consumer eating preferences. 
    • Gain valuble research experience evaluating the food marketing environment e.g., 

    Students will reasearch current topics like digital activity of major food brands. Additional topics include food advertising effect on racial and ethnic minorities, research implications on food policy, and ethical aspects of food marketing to children.

    About Svetlana

    Svetlana Kalnova earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Connecticut, and her B.A. in Humanities and Applied Sciences from Moscow State Linguistic University. Her research interests include food marketing to children and young adults, prevention of undergraduate college drinking, use of social media for weight gain prevention among college students, and parental perceptions of their children’s eating behavior. Her teaching focuses on persuasion and health communication

    In her free time, Svetlana enjoys baking sourdough rye bread, skiing and traveling!
