  • 5/27 Beyond the Play Episode 3

Doug Glanville teams up with UCTV to discuss gender inequality in sports.

UCTV Sports reporters Julia Gintof and Katherine Sheridan sat down with former MLB player,
ESPN analyst and UConn professor Doug Glanville to talk about gender inequality in sports on
the latest episode of “Beyond the Play.” The episode will be released on UCTV’s YouTube page
on Thursday, May 27 at 8:30 p.m. ET.

In this episode, they discuss what went on in the NCAA Tournament bubbles, where the women
were given far inferior amenities than the men. Glanville says this was a result of a “legacy of
inequity” not just in college basketball but in sports in general. They also talk about the need of
having women represented in places of power to avoid situations like that from happening again.

The other topic they touch upon is the comments made by NBA player Draymond Green, saying
that female athletes should stop complaining and work to achieve equality themselves. Glanville
says that sports are a tilted playing field in the favor of men, so it takes advocates in all areas of
sports — not just from women — to help even that playing field. He says it’s not just a women’s
problem because if it was, it would have been solved already.

Tune in this Thursday to hear this important discussion between three people passionate about
the subject of women in sports.
