  • Equine Independent Study Opportunities

Dr. Jenifer Nadeau is offering the following Animal Science independent studies for summer and fall!

We work around your schedule so no worries about times/days etc.

Equine Health Management – You would help weigh and body condition score every other month. You would help collect manure and do fecal floatation exams and follow ups once during the semester in the fall (in the summer we will do checks of any new horses or horses we are concerned about). Must have horse leading experience to do this, ability to put on a halter and lead a horse.

Equine Extension Techniques – you would create a station, team problem, 10 slides on horse topics and also assist with the hippology (uses those items) and horse judging contests and help with a horse show, horse contest or Horsin In Stride (create a give a mini workshop with hands on activities, we will help you), communications contests, Big E general knowledge exam and input data and write contest material as needed in my office. A few weekends involved but we can work around those as needed.

Equine Trail Management – Assist Dr Nadeau with trail maintenance, both on foot and horseback. Must be able to walk, trot and canter safely on a horse. May need to pass a riding test.

Horse Science Teaching Practicum – Fall only, help TA horse science. Open to those who have taken horse science and can safely handle horses. Assist with record keeping etc for labs.
