  • IRS Impersonation Phishing Scam

IRS has warned of a widespread phishing scam targeting Universities. The fraudulent message appears to come from the IRS and instructs recipients to click a link and provide personal information in order to claim their tax refunds.  More detailed information about the scam is posted on UConn’s Tax and Compliance Office website.

If you receive this or any other suspicious message, you can forward it to reportphishing@uconn.edu and delete it from your inbox. Cybercriminals often exploit annual and current events, such as tax season, the holidays, and COVID-19, to trick people into responding to a message. In general, do not click links in messages or download attachments if you are not expecting the request and/or do not know the sender.
