School, Program, and Course Information

  • Online 3-Credit Summer Course: EPSY 2450/2450W

Are you interested in the systems of care (e.g. health, education) across policy, process, and practice that support children? Would you like to work towards finding solutions for complicated issues (e.g. high prevalence across communities of childhood adverse experiences involving abuse and maltreatment) and varied perspectives (e.g. policies on services for children with intensive behavioral needs or gun control in schools) on how best to create safe and supportive learning environments for children? If so, you should sign up for EPSY 2450 or EPSY 2450W (if you would like to work towards meeting your W requirement)!

In this introductory course, we examine the interrelated contributors in health and education on child well-being. The Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child model is used to organize the course, with topics spanning each of the 10 components within the model. We discuss the theory and evidence behind initiatives to integrate policy, process, and practice across learning and health sectors, providing broad perspective on interconnections across critical systems of care for children. Using case studies, we provide exposure to critical issues in engaging and advocating for approaches that link health and academics to facilitate positive outcomes and reduce risk for children.
