The Chemistry Department presents:
"Synthesis of Photoactivatable Glycolipid Antigens Utilizing Aryltrifluorodiazirines"
Katherine T. Cavanaugh
Howell Group, UConn
This talk will explore the implementation of photoactivatable components in glycolipids as a means of improving their therapeutic efficacy with regards to natural killer T (NKT) cells. DIazirines are irreversibly converted to carbenes upon UV activation, and have the potential to covalently bind to select residues within the CD1d protein of antigen presenting cells for presentation to NKT cells. The synthesis of two glycolipid substrates incorporating an aryltrifluorodiazirine moiety will be described therein.
