  • 4/21 Student Testimony - come share your story

We are looking for UConn students to share their stories to the Border, Immigration, and Refugee Crises Subcommittee of the first annual Human Rights Symposium at UConn!

This subcommittee is organizing a “Life at the Southern Border” panel, which hopes to encapsulate the topics of immigration, border patrol, and refugee crises through hosting expert speakers, collaborative/interactive workshops, art and music galleries, and testimony from students at UConn who wish to highlight experiences within these topics.

As a student storyteller, whether anonymous or not, we are looking to feature any 5- to 7-minute written, pre-recorded, or virtual testimonies explaining experiences as an individual or family member to someone that is undocumented, an immigrant, refugee, or anything in between at the start of our subcommittee’s event.

We would love to hear your stories, and how these topics have affected your life, especially at UConn. Hearing from peers at UConn would greatly benefit our community and allow for a much larger conversation to be had. Our subcommittee’s one-day portion of the Human Rights Symposium will take place on Wednesday, April 21th, and we would love to hear back from any potential storytelling participants by April 15th.

For anyone who is interested in sharing their stories, or who would like to learn more about the Human Rights Symposium, the Border, Immigration, and Refugee Crises Subcommittee, or any of the other subcommittees, please reach out to either diana.velasco@uconn.edu or hrsymposium2021@gmail.com
