  • UConn's Budget - Be Heard

    Fellow Huskies,

We hope you had a safe and smooth transition into the spring semester.

In just a few weeks, the State Legislature’s Appropriations Committee will be reviewing the state’s budget--and with it UConn’s future. In the past year, UConn has faced budget cuts, which means higher tuition rates, the elimination of some majors and graduate programs, larger class sizes and longer waitlists, elimination of student support programs which our community needs, and reductions to need- and merit- based financial aid for our students.

This year, we have an opportunity to protect our University’s budget by working closely with Governor Lamont and the Appropriations Committee to ensure that our state continues to #InvestInUConn. Your support is crucial in ensuring that UConn receives the funding it needs and deserves. Even though we are operating in a virtual setting, there are many ways you can get involved to help secure UConn’s funding!

First, we encourage you to submit a video telling your UConn story! We are looking for students to contribute to our social media movement to reach our state lawmakers. Please refer to the attached template for further instructions, and visit our website to learn more about how you can get involved. Also, make sure you like, follow, and share our Twitter by following @InvestInUConn and uplifting our message. If you have any questions, please contact D at externalaffairs@usg.uconn.edu

Additionally, we are looking to gather stories from students to share with the General Assembly.  If you’d rather submit written testimony to be given directly to members of the Appropriations Committee, we encourage you to email them directly at testimony@cga.ct.gov, as well as to UConn Proud at jim@uconnproud.org.

Please consider supporting our UConn community during these difficult times. We look forward to seeing your engagement.

    In community,

    Michael Hernández
    Undergraduate Student Body President

    Maggie Khuu
    Graduate Student Senate Vice President
