    You will write analytical short film analyses, learn about film history, learn basic film terminology, evaluate the films in short videos on FlipGrid, and watch bigger and smaller films that are VERY GERMAN.

     

    -----------> Germ 1171-002: The German Film, taught by Professor Stefan Bronner

     

    Course Description: 

    GERM 1171 will present a selection of German films since the beginning of the 20th century and present some secrets of German culture, the particular ways of perceiving the world. At the end of this lecture, students will be able to talk about film as a cultural artifact, appreciate values of the German culture and compare them to their own. Students will learn about milestones in German film history, i.e. Expressionism, New German Cinema et al., its traditions, and analyze films within the contexts of historical, social and political developments. Furthermore, students will learn to critically discuss film, including using the appropriate technical terminology.
