  • 10/5 Fire Prevention Week with UConn Fire Department

In the United States, October 4th to October 10th is Fire Prevention Week this year. The theme for this year is “Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen.”

The most frequent cause of fires in the United States for over ten years has been cooking-related incidents. These fires have resulted in significant casualties, as well as an average of $1 billion in direct property damage per year. Unattended cooking was the leading cause of cooking fires and casualties.

The UConn Fire Department has created a simulation video for kitchen fire prevention in cooperation with the Division of Public Safety and the Connecticut Fire Academy. To view this video, please visit our fire safety page at https://publicsafety.uconn.edu/fire/safety/.
