  • Passing of Student Victor Moraru

    The University grieves the loss of a valued member of our community. Victor Moraru a junior from Meriden, CT studying in the ACES program passed away on August 24, 2020. Victor planned to pursue Marine Sciences as a major.

     

    As a first year student, he was a member of the Innovation House Learning Community. More recently, Victor was involved with the Sailing Club and B.A.I.L.E., a student organization at UCONN aimed at raising cultural awareness through music and dance.

     

    For those wishing to pay their respect to Victor’s family, services will be on Thursday, August 27, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St. Meriden. (masks and social distancing will be required). For those unable to attend the services, condolences to the Moraru family can be sent to the Dean of Students Office, 233 Glenbrook Road, Unit-4062, Storrs, Connecticut 06269-4062.

     

    This is a difficult time for the University as we navigate the many emotions people have after experiencing the loss of another community member. We write today to remind you of the resources available to students. University staff are available to provide support through phone and/or video options. We encourage you to reach out to the offices listed below if you need support.

     

    Student Health & Wellness - Mental Health Services is available to provide support to the Storrs campus community at this time of loss.  To access Mental Health Services for a telehealth or phone appointment contact 860-486-4705. In addition, information about dealing with grief is located on the Mental Health Services website.

     

    The staff in Dean of Students Office are available to help you as well. To meet with someone you can email dos@uconn.edu to make an appointment or sign up to meet with an Assistant Dean using Nexus.  

     

    This is a difficult time for UConn and for the Moraru family.  Our deepest sympathy goes out to the Victor’s family and friends during this time of loss.
