DRIVING ELECTRIC GRID INNOVATION THROUGH DATA ANALYTICS
Join the summer competition among UConn students on research and development projects for a cleaner, safer, and more resilient electric grid!
It’s easy:
- Find a teammate
- Apply by March 31st
- Selections announced on April 15th
- Research projects presented on August 28th
- Winners announced on August 31st
Participation:
- $500 will be given to all students selected for the competition
First prize:
- 1 year ($10,000) fellowship
Please send an email to eecchallenge@uconn.edu for registration.
- Each team should be composed by two undergraduate students enrolled at UConn, should specify two projects from the list below, and attach CVs and UConn transcripts.
- Four teams will be selected for this competition. Each selected team will be supervised by EEC faculty.
- Fellowships will be offered to the two students of the winning team for the fall 2020 and spring 2021 to continue working on their summer research project.
Possible projects:
- OPM: Modeling electric power outages through data analytics
- STORMWISE: Reducing the risk of tree-related storm damages to the infrastructure
- FIRE: Modeling wildfires through data analytics
- IRRIGATION: Reduce water usage for irrigation
- FLOOD: Flood risk estimation
- BIODIVERSITY: Biodiversity response to global changes
- WIND: Monitoring offshore winds or simulating winds at local scale
- LIDAR: Use of LIDAR techniques for infrastructure mapping
- STRUCTURAL: Studying infrastructure fragility curves
