Attention Women in STEM at UCONN!
The Society of Women Engineers and the Engineering Diversity Outreach Center need your help for our upcoming outreach event called Multiply Your Options (MYO). MYO is an exploratory, one-day conference for eighth-grade girls. Our goal is to expose these girls to female role models in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), empowering them in their abilities to pursue a future in STEM. We need YOU to help make our event memorable and impactful for the 250+ girls that are attending.
The date for the upcoming MYO is Monday, October 7th, 2019, and ANY help from female STEM majors is deeply appreciated. If you can spare any time out of your day to support MYO to help increase the amount of women in STEM, then sign up today
There is a general training session for volunteers next week on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2019 in CAST212 at 7:30PM.
Volunteers can help with general tasks, STEM workshops (where we need the most help), and Tools Clues.
STEM Workshops: 9:00-10:15AM - and/or - 10:10-11:05AM
These volunteers will get more information regarding getting trained on the workshop so that they are prepared for the day of MYO and teach these girls about interesting STEM concepts! The descriptions for them are in the spreadsheet at the bottom of the announcement. Being a workshop facilitator gives you the opportunity to be a leader.
Tools Clues: 12:00-1:00PM
Tools Clues is the session where female engineers bring in items from their jobs and show them to the students. The objective is to have the students guess what the women do for a living. Volunteers help oversee the rooms.
Networking Event: 1:30-2:30PM
After MYO, we have an informal networking event with the female engineers that participate in Tools Clues from 1:30-2:30PM. It's a great way to build connections and relationships with people who could potentially help you secure an internship in the future. Sign-ups for this portion are in the spreadsheet below.
