Because of the recent surge of interest in both our organization and our journal, The Ethical Biologist, we are adding several new positions to the executive board of the UConn Bioethics Club. Check out the position descriptions below and apply to any (or all) of them. Interested individuals should submit a separate letter of intent for each position they are applying for. Specific details of what to include are listed below, but individuals should describe why they are interested in the Bioethics Club, and their qualifications for the position they seek.
PRESS & PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER (1)
The Press & PR officer is responsible for promoting and advertising the club and its events. The Press & PR officer is additionally responsible for promoting the publication of our journal, The Ethical Biologist, and for helping distribute the journal after it is published. Because this entails an enormous amount of work, this position will be shared between two individuals, both of whom will bear the title of Press & PR officer. One of the Press & PR positions is currently filled, so only one is available, but all applicants should recognize that they will be working closely with another individual. Additionally, the Press & PR officers will often work closely with the other members of the executive board, particularly the Event Planners and CFO. When applying for this position, do not describe your previous leadership experience. Instead, discuss your ability to work closely with other individuals, and describe any previous instances of successful collaboration with others.
EVENT PLANNER (2)
The Event Planner is responsible for planning special events for both the Bioethics Club at UConn and The Ethical Biologist. Typical club events include film screenings, guest lectures, and collaborations with other student organizations. Our largest event is a launch event to celebrate the publication of our journal, The Ethical Biologist, and occurs midway through the spring semester. The Event Planner is responsible for planning these events, and any other events they feel would benefit the organization. Because this entails an enormous amount of work, this position will be shared between two individuals, both of whom will bear the title of Event Planner. All applicants should recognize that they will be working closely with another individual. Additionally, the Event Planning officers will often work closely with the other members of the executive board, particularly the Press & PR officers and CFO. NOTE: In order to be considered for one of the senior executive board positions (VP, President) or senior editorial positions for The Ethical Biologist, an individual must have served as the organization's Event Planner, Managing Editor, or Layout Editor for at least one semester.
WEBMASTER (1)
The Webmaster is responsible for managing the organization’s digital presence, particularly for updating and maintaining our website (http://www.ethicalbiologist.org/). Additional responsibilities include updating and managing our Facebook page and UConntact pages as needed. Interested candidates should possess a basic to intermediate understanding of how databases and websites operate, and a working knowledge of WordPress.
All letters of intent must be e-mailed to us (uconn.bioethics@gmail.com) by the beginning of the next general meeting, which is at 6:00pm on October 3. If you have any questions during the application process, feel free to contact us at that address.
