  • School of Nursing Dean Announcement

Sent on behalf of Jeremy Teitelbaum, Interim Provost & Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs:

I’m delighted to announce that Professor Deborah Chyun, Dr. John Rowe Professor of Successful Aging and Executive Associate Dean of the Rory Meyers College of Nursing at NYU, has accepted the position of Dean of the UConn School of Nursing.  Professor Chyun will begin her term as dean on January 1, 2018.

Professor Chyun holds a BS in Nursing from Boston College, an MS from Yale’s School of Nursing, and a Ph.D. in Chronic Disease Epidemiology from Yale’s School of Medicine.  Among her many scholarly contributions, Dr. Chyun’s work on the detection, prevention, and management of cardiovascular disease in older adults with diabetes has influenced screening for silent heart disease and been incorporated into the American Diabetes Association recommendations.  She has held a range of significant leadership positions at NYU, including the Directorship of the Florence S. Downs Ph.D. program in Nursing Research and Theory Development, leading up to her service as executive associate dean since 2012. Prior to NYU, she spent 10 years at Yale as an Assistant and Associate Professor.

I am grateful to the search committee for their outstanding work and to the faculty, staff, and students of the School of Nursing for their active participation in this search process.  I sincerely thank Dr. Carol Polifroni for her steadfast dedication to the School of Nursing and the University of Connecticut over many years, and particularly for her recent service as interim dean.

Please join me in congratulating Dean-designate Chyun and in welcoming her to the University of Connecticut.
