  • Stage IA Water Conservation Notice

The University of Connecticut is lifting the Stage III Water Supply Warning and the Stage II Water Supply Watch that were issued when area streamflows were affected by seasonally dry conditions.   We remain in a Stage IA Water Conservation Alert and request continued voluntary water conservation.

The recent rainfall has partially restored streamflow in the rivers near our wellfields. However, the Drought Watch for Tolland County issued by the State of Connecticut on October 26, 2016 remains in effect, and all residents and businesses in Drought Watch areas have been asked to reduce water demand by 15%.

We are asking our students, faculty, staff to be conscientious of their daily water use and to conserve water voluntarily by:

    • Take short showers. Turn off the water flow while soaping or shampooing.
    • Use the appropriate water level or load size selection on the washing machine.
    • Use water only as needed when washing dishes, shaving, and brushing teeth. Don’t let the faucet run unnecessarily.
    • Run dishwashers only when completely full.
    • Public water should not be used to wash building exteriors, driveways, sidewalks or vehicles.
    • Reconsider pouring water down the drain when there may be another use for it -such as watering a plant or garden.
    • Immediately report any leaky fixtures in UConn buildings to Facilities Operations (486-3113).

The University’s water supply remains adequate to meet current and forecasted system demands and any emergency needs such as firefighting. We continue to monitor local and state-wide conditions and will provide future updates as conditions warrant.

If you are an off-campus customer in receipt of this notice, please be advised that the Connecticut Water Company has recently become your water supply utility. During this transition period, you may continue to receive similar water supply notices from the University of Connecticut.

Thank you for your support and cooperation throughout our period of water conservation.
