  • 10/28 Joint EEB/NRE Seminar: Pat Megonigal

Please join us for a Joint Seminar with the Departments of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and Natural Resources and the Environment, featuring Dr. Pat Megonigal, Senior Scientist and Deputy Director of the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center. He will be presenting on "Plant Traits and Sea Level Rise Dominate Tidal Marsh Response to Global Change."

Friday, October 28th, 2:30-3:30. WB Young Building Room 100. Light refreshments will be served beginning at 2pm

The Smithsonian Institution’s Global Change Research Wetland (GCREW) is a tidal brackish marsh on the Chesapeake Bay that supports three long-term experiments (5-29 years) and a sea level rise mesocosm facility. The site is dedicated to understanding the ecological processes that confer elevation stability on coastal marshes as they respond to global environmental change. Dr. Megonigal will summarize the long-term short-term data from the site and propose a conceptual model that unifies the ecological interactions between plant traits, eCO2, nitrogen loading, and relative sea level (RSL).
