Title: “Part 2 – Dementia Update, Dealing with Behavioral, Caregiver and Medicolegal Issues”

Learning Objectives: Participants will (be able to):
- Define the term “behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia” (BPSD).
- Review evidence for non-pharmacological and pharmacological treatment strategies for BPSD.
- Identify risks of pharmacological treatments strategies in an elderly population with Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia.
- Recognize caregiver borders and overcome barriers to improving patient care by addressing caregiver needs.
- Discuss service and research trials at the Center of Aging at UCONN Health.
- Recognize the challenges of addressing caregiver needs in a standard medical practice.
Target Audience: The Department of Medicine faculty, housestaff and students, though many topics
will be of interest to housestaff, students and other faculty members within the University of CT Schools
of Medicine and Dental Medicine..
Accreditation: The University of Connecticut School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
