  • 10/12 After the Fire

In conjunction with National Fire Safety Month, The UConn Fire Department is hosting “After the Fire” presentation in the Student Union Theater on Wednesday, October 12th 2016 from 7pm to 9pm.  This presentation comes to us from two former Seton Hall students from New Jersey, Shawn Simons and Alvaro Llanos, who are burn survivors from a residence hall fire in 2000.  Three students perished in that fire as well as 58 others were injured.

Alvaro and Shawn openly discuss their story as burn survivors with emphasis on fire safety and prevention.  Their motive is to be advocates for fire safety and prevention so that no other students, faculty or staff will have to endure the pain that they suffered.

Their story is one of survival, perseverance, inspiration, hope, courage and friendship.  They inspire to motivate students and professionals that life will give you many obstacles.  It’s how you overcome those obstacles by drawing strength, knowledge and motivation form those around you.

There is no charge for admission.  We hope you can join the UConn Fire Department on October 12th to hear their compelling story.
