Title: “Pulmonary Function Testing”

Learning Objectives: Participants will (be able to):
- Define restrictive and obstructive lung disorders.
- Identify how “normal” values are obtained.
- Identify a flow volume loop for obstructive, restrictive, extra thoracic obstructive and fixed obstructive patients.
- Define a bronchodilator response.
- Accurately label the severity of obstructive changes.
- Recognize two methods of measuring lung volume.
- Describe what is measured by diffusion capacity.
- Identify two factors which may influence accurate diffusion measurement
- State an indication for bronchial provocation testing.
- State an indication for comprehensive exercise testing.
Target Audience: The Department of Medicine faculty, housestaff and students, though many topics
will be of interest to housestaff, students and other faculty members within the University of CT Schools
of Medicine and Dental Medicine..
Accreditation: The University of Connecticut School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
