  • 3/18 Seeking Weekend Hosts - Last Day to Sign Up

A message from the University of Connecticut’s Global Training and Development Institute (GTDI):

We are seeking families and individuals to host 1-2 program participants each for a “homestay” weekend from Friday evening, March 18th, to Sunday afternoon, March 20th (alternative pick-up on Saturday morning, alternative drop-off on Monday morning options are available).

During most of the program, the participants will be staying on campus in UConn housing.  The homestay weekend provides participants with the opportunity to experience U.S. culture and see how Americans live and spend their leisure time in this country.

All of the participants in the program are fluent in English and were selected by the U.S. Department of State.

UConn's Global Training and Development Institute was selected by the U.S. State Department to conduct a YSEALI spring institute for Student Leaders in Social Entrepreneurship.  Launched in 2013, the Young Southeast Asian Leadership Initiative (YSEALI) (https://youngsoutheastasianleaders.state.gov/about-yseali) aims to strengthen leadership development in area of social entrepreneurship.

Twenty-one college student leaders from Southeast Asia have arrived at the UConn Storrs campus to participate in the five-week program to learn about the U.S., economic development, and social entrepreneurship.  The participants will then apply the skills learned during the program to address challenges back in their home countries.

This is a great cross-cultural opportunity to learn about Southeast Asia and to develop new friendships. This is the 7th year UConn has placed program participants for homestay weekends, and previous host families have found the experience to be very rewarding and enjoyed getting to know the individuals.  Please contact danielle.derosa@uconn.edu or 860-486-6305 if you would like to participate or have questions. Thank you for your interest!

** Hurry!  Today, 3/14, is the last day to sign up as a host! **
