Dear Deans, Directors and Department Heads:
The Graduate School invites the nominations of finishing Doctoral students (including those whose degrees were conferred in August or December 2015) to present the address at the Commencement ceremony, Sunday May 8, 2016 3:00-4:30pm at Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts. This is the second year for this emerging student speaker tradition, and hope you’ll support this effort by passing along this notice and nominating a candidate.
Nominations should consist of:
· A short (1-page) nomination by a major advisor or department head explaining why the nominee could give a particularly inspiring or noteworthy commencement address (not simply a summary of the nominee’s academic accomplishments).
· A short (1-page) essay from the nominee outlining her/his anticipated commencement address.
Please submit nominations to Victoria Blodgett, Assistant Dean for Graduate Student and Postdoctoral Affairs (victoria.blodgett@uconn.edu) by Monday March 28, 2016. A committee will review nominations and select a small number of finalists who will be asked to audition by giving a preliminary version of their address.
We hope that you and your finishing Doctoral students will find this an exciting opportunity to share their passion for knowledge with the people who will join us in Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts and those watching the event as it is live-streamed to their computer, tablet, or smartphone.
