Please join Native American Cultural Programs in welcoming Shoni Schimmel to UConn! As part of Native American Heritage Month at UConn, Shoni will be speaking about her experiences living on a reservation in Oregon and leaving the reservation at age 16 to pursue her dream of becoming a professional basketball player. The lecture will be in the Student Union Theater from 7-8 PM, and will include Q & A with Shoni and her sister Jude. The lecture will be immediately followed by a Meet and Greet outside of the Theater in the Student Union from 8-9 PM. The lecture and Meet and Greet are free, and open to UConn students, faculty, staff, and the public.
Shoni Schimmel played her college basketball career at the University of Louisville. She was drafted into the WNBA in 2014 as a first round pick by the Atlanta Dream. Shoni received the MVP award at the 2014 WNBA All-Star Game during her rookie season.
