Professor Rob Knight is a leader in the human microbiome field and has co-authored many seminal
papers in this rapidly expanding area of research. One example is the paper “Diversity, Stability and
Resilience of the Human Gut Microbiota” that was published in Nature in 2012. The Human Microbiome
Project, American Gut Project and the Earth Microbiome are examples of large projects where he
performs key roles. He developed the genome analysis programs UniFrac and Qiime. He was a HHMI
Early Career Scientist at the University of Colorado at Boulder and recently moved to University of
