    Call for Hearing Officers - Join the General Misconduct Hearing Board

    Dear Colleagues,

    The Office of Community Standards is seeking staff members interested in serving as Hearing Officers. Hearing Officers play an important role in the student conduct process by reviewing information, participating in hearings, and helping ensure fair, equitable, and educational outcomes for students and student organizations.

    This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the University community, develop conflict resolution and decision-making skills, and gain a deeper understanding of student conduct processes and policy application. No prior conduct experience is required. Comprehensive training and ongoing support will be provided.

    Hearing Officers may be asked to hear cases involving:

    ·         General misconduct allegations under The Student Code.

    ·         Sexual misconduct matters that fall outside the scope of Title IX regulations but remain subject to University policy.

    ·         Student organization misconduct cases involving recognized student organizations.

    As a Hearing Officer, you may:

    ·         Review case materials and evidence prior to hearings;

    ·         Participate in hearings and ask questions of parties and witnesses;

    ·         Apply the preponderance of the evidence standard when determining outcomes;

    ·         Deliberate with fellow Hearing Officer(s);

    ·         Assist in determining appropriate educational outcomes and sanctions when applicable.

    We are particularly interested in recruiting individuals from a variety of professional backgrounds and experiences to ensure diverse perspectives are represented throughout the hearing process.

    If you are interested in serving as a Hearing Officer or would like additional information, please complete the interest form below by Friday November 13th, 2026 at 11:59 pm.

    Training will be provided, and hearing assignments will be scheduled based on availability.

    Before committing to serve as a Hearing Officer, staff members are expected to discuss this opportunity with their supervisor. Serving as a Hearing Officer requires time for training, case review, and participation in hearings. This conversation also provides an opportunity to identify and address any potential conflicts of interest, confidentiality concerns, or role-related considerations that may affect participation in the hearing process.

    Thank you for considering this opportunity to support our students and contribute to a fair and educational conduct process. Please feel free to reach out with any questions by emailing kim.k@uconn.edu, or our general mailbox at community@uconn.edu.
