You’re invited to a special webinar featuring Mayra Rodríguez González, Ph.D., Assistant Extension Educator in Urban and Community Forestry with UConn Extension and Resident Scholar at UConn Hartford.
Professor Rodríguez González received the 2026 Provost’s Award for Excellence in Community-Engaged Scholarship in the Early Career Faculty Community Impact category. Her work brings together urban forestry, climate resilience, environmental justice, and applied geospatial science to create equitable environmental solutions with communities across Connecticut.
Through bilingual and culturally responsive initiatives, Dr. Rodríguez González centers the experiences of communities historically underserved or underrepresented in environmental programs. Her partnerships have supported tree canopy and climate resilience plans for 12 cities, trained thousands of practitioners and educators, and expanded public participation through programs such as Latino Conservation Week.
During this engaging conversation, Professor Rodríguez González will share insights into building authentic community partnerships, incorporating resident voices into research and program design, and translating academic knowledge into practical action that strengthens environmental stewardship and community resilience.
Whether you’re an educator, student, community member, environmental professional, or engagement practitioner, this webinar offers a unique opportunity to learn how collaborative and inclusive approaches can advance environmental justice and create healthier, more resilient communities.
