Teaching Durable AI Literacy: Lessons from the First Year of AI Literacy Basics
Generative AI tools change quickly, but the skills students need to use them thoughtfully are more durable. In this workshop, we’ll explore lessons learned from the first year of UConn Library’s AI Literacy Basics course and take a tour of its newly redesigned “2.0” version. We’ll look at how student feedback and emerging AI literacy practices shaped revisions that emphasize accurate mental models, ethical decision-making, intentional tool use, active learning, and critical evaluation of AI-generated information.
Whether you’re new to AI Literacy Basics or have used it before, you’ll leave with ideas for incorporating the course—or individual modules, activities, and frameworks—into your own teaching and student support.
