Training and Professional Development

  • Graduate Assessment 101

How do we know what our graduate students are learning—and how can we use that information to strengthen graduate education?

Graduate Assessment 101 is an introductory, hands-on workshop designed to help faculty develop practical approaches to assessing graduate student learning and skill development. Participants will explore strategies for measuring graduate student progress through assessments that are aligned with program learning objectives.

This workshop will introduce participants to:

    • Measuring graduate student learning and professional skill development
    • Creating a curriculum map to connect learning outcomes, coursework, and program milestones
    • Identifying and collecting appropriate evidence of student learning
    • Adapting existing or creating progress reports and other program materials to serve as meaningful sources of assessment data
    • Using assessment findings to identify strengths, address gaps, and support continuous improvement

Graduate Assessment 101 will provide a practical foundation for making assessment manageable, meaningful, and useful for graduate programs.
