The National Science Foundation (NSF) has not yet released the solicitation for the Fall 2026 Graduate Research Fellowship application cycle. This is the second year in a row that the soliciation - historically issued in early July - has not gone out before the beginning of the fall semester. The lack of information coming out of NSF has prompted questions from students and faculty about the status of the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP).
At this point, there are literally no updates available. The NSF-GRFP website has not been updated since last year's recipients were announced. In other words, the 2026 call for applications has not been issued, and the application, which normally opens in July, is not yet available.
Staff in UConn's Office of National Scholarships & Fellowships are monitoring events surrounding the program and will keep prospective applicants and their advisers abreast of any changes in the program as they are made public.
These updates may be found at the following URL: https://www.onsf.uconn.edu/nsf-grfp/.
