Matt Martin, Ph.D.
Head of Computational Safety Sciences
Drug Safety Research and Development
Pfizer, Groton, CT
Mathew Martin is the Head of Computational Safety Sciences at Pfizer. He joined Pfizer’s Drug Safety Research and Development organization and has led the enhancement of computational and artificial intelligence capabilities across the drug safety and computational biology community.
Dr. Martin started his career at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, where he ultimately led ToxCast/Tox21 and Toxicity Reference Database (ToxRefDB) data analysis. He was part of the EPA Intern Program (now called the Environmental Careers Program), completing rotations across the Office of Pesticide Programs and the Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics. He worked as an environmental scientist at Versar Inc. supporting antimicrobial pesticide risk assessment and later as a database analyst at CH2M Hill Inc. At the EPA’s National Center for Computational Toxicology, he served as a biologist on the ToxCast team, led the Toxicity Reference Database (ToxRefDB) effort, and served as a CSS task lead for developing predictive models of toxicity using high-throughput screening data.
Dr. Martin has over 70 peer-reviewed publications, numerous software releases, and has mentored more than 10 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. His honors include U.S. EPA Scientific and Technological Achievement Awards (Level II and Level III), a Superior Accomplishment Recognition Award for ToxCast data analysis, and a Gold Coin Recipient and Certificate of Appreciation for support of the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill response.
