  • Recruiting 35-55 Year Olds for Hearing Study

Researchers at the University of Connecticut and the University of Wisconsin-Madison are conducting a study on gender differences in hearing ability and noise exposure.

People 35-55 who use iPhones are invited to participate in this three-month study. Participation involves a one-hour session in the lab, which includes a hearing test. Then, participants will be given two devices to take home to help track aspects of their health and noise exposure, one of which will be required to be worn during all waking hours. Participants will also be required to take a short hearing test on their phone every other day (about 5 minutes). Participants will be required to visit the lab, located in the Phillips Communication Sciences Building on the Storrs Campus of the University of Connecticut, twice during the three-month period to check in.

All participants are compensated for their participation. All data collected is confidential.

This research is conducted through IRB # RELY25-0465, under the direction of Dr. Erik Jorgensen in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at UW-Madison and Dr. Erika Skoe in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at UConn.
