  • 4/10 & 4/11 Theatre: Eros and Psyche & Hans-my-Hedgehog

Eros and Psyche and Hans-my-Hedgehog are two installments of a four-part play cycle returning folklore from around the world to the stage, integrating human and puppet performers in a lively retelling of these often-forgotten stories. This cycle unites four unique versions of the Aarne-Thompson-Uther (ATU) Type 425 myth. The Aarne-Thompson-Uther Index is an international catalogue of folktale types, tracking shared stories and motifs across geographical and temporal distance. As many of these tales began their histories exclusively within their native culture’s oral traditions, this project seeks to return them to a setting of visual and auditory transmission more in line with their original tellings than their currently more popular written forms.

This staged reading features UConn student actors and original puppets designed by Puppet Arts students, with direction by Caitlin Ongley and scripts by Emily Finch.

Tickets are free and can be secured at the door before each show.

Performances will take place at the Harriet S. Jorgensen Theatre on Friday, April 10th, at 7:00 pm, and Saturday, April 11th, at 2:00 pm.
