Looking for a family-friendly activity during school vacation week? UConn Avery Point and UConn Library are hosting a free week-long celebration of reading, with story times with special guests, free kids' book giveaways, crafts, and activities from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day Monday, April 13, through Friday, April 17.
Kids of all ages will find activities and books to interest them, and the story times at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. are geared specifically toward grades K-2. Special guest readers include UConn alum Nashta Nation, author of "Simi's Self-Care Day," as well as UConn Avery Point students. Story times and activities will be held in the library building or on the lawn nearby if weather permits.
The UConn Avery Point Reading Celebration is the brainchild of Jamie Kleinman, Associate Professor-in-Residence of Psychological Sciences, who organized a similar program pre-COVID. Students in her Developmental Psychology class have collected books through a campus-wide book drive, designed publicity, planned crafts and activities, and will participate in the activities all week long.
