Are You an Older Adult Looking to Boost Your Physical Performance? Participate in the TAKEOFF Study!
Volunteers needed for a new research study investigating if taking drinks containing ketones every day for 20 weeks can help physical function in older adults who are slowing down.
What is the purpose of this study? This study will examine the impact of ketone esters (a nutritional supplement) on strength, physical function, markers of healthy aging and inflammation, cognition, and mental wellbeing.
Who can participate?
- Adults aged 65 years or older
- Live independently
- Have trouble walking ¼ mile or upstairs
- Have no recent hospitalizations
- Have stable health
- Have no allergies or soy or milk
What is involved? You will be asked to complete five study visits at the UConn Center on Aging and consume a ketone ester or placebo supplement daily over the course of 20 weeks. Study visits include blood and urine collection, questionnaires, and physical performance testing. You will also be asked to complete interviews over the phone and wear a provided Fitbit wrist activity monitor for the whole study.
Will I be compensated? Subjects are eligible to receive up to $500 for completion of the study. There will be 5 payments in total, one payment at the completion of each study visit.
