  • Announcing Senior Director of Academic Success

    Dear UConn Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce that Leo M. Lachut has been appointed Senior Director of Academic Success at the University of Connecticut. In this expanded role, Leo will oversee academic support services across the University, including the Q and W Centers in Storrs and at the Regional Campuses, strengthen coordination among academic skill-building and course-connected supports, and provide strategic leadership to help advance student success, persistence, and belonging. This appointment will further our goal to enhance and expand our ability to deliver integrated support that helps students thrive in their curricular and co-curricular experiences.

Leo currently serves as Director of Academic Support, where he has led campus-wide academic support initiatives and overseen the Academic Achievement Center (AAC), including AAC operations at the Hartford and Waterbury campuses. His work has been instrumental in strengthening coordinated, multi-campus approaches to academic support that meet students where they are and respond to their diverse needs.

With more than 30 years of experience in higher education, Leo has dedicated his career to supporting first-year, first-generation, and historically underserved students. He has taught First-Year Experience (FYE) courses for over 25 years and has played a central role in developing integrated, relationship-based support models that align academic coaching, mentoring, and supplemental instruction.

A proud first-generation college graduate, Leo brings a deeply student-centered and equity-driven perspective to his leadership. As Senior Director of Academic Success, he will continue to emphasize cross-divisional collaboration and institutional alignment to strengthen student outcomes and foster a culture of belonging across the University.

Please join us in congratulating Leo on his new role and expanded responsibilities.

    Sincerely,
