Bio:
Dr. Karim Ahmed is an Adjunct Professor at UConn Health in Occupational and Environmental Health and an Honorary Professor in the School of Public Health and Family Medicine at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. Additionally, he serves as a Senior Advisor to the Global Council for Science and the Environment (GCSE) in Washington, DC. Formerly he was Research Director and Senior Scientist with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) in New York City, and Deputy Director of Health, Environment, and Development at the World Resources Institute (WRI) in Washington, DC. He is a co-author of Respirable Particles: Impact of Airborne Fine Particulates on Health and the Environment (published in 1979), which eventually led to the development of the USEPA's National Ambient Air Quality Standard for Particulate Matter, PM2.5.
