Participant compensation must match the IRB-approved protocol and informed consent form.
Payment reminders for investigators, study teams and fiscal officers:
- Follow the IRB-approved consent and protocol for payments. Changes may not be made without prior IRB approval through an amendment.
- Requirements apply to all payment methods, including ClinCard, gift cards, cash, checks, HuskyBucks, Prolific/MTurk, Venmo, or any other platform.
- Maintain proper documentation:
- Records must clearly link payments to participant IDs while avoiding the use of personal identifiers (e.g., names or email addresses) in UConn financial systems.
- Transactions should be recorded in a timely manner, consistent with SPS guidance.
- Non-sponsored and sponsored accounts: the same requirements apply regardless of funding source.
Accurate compensation practices safeguard participants, maintains UConn’s compliance standing, and ensures investigators meet federal, institutional, and sponsor requirements.
