At UConn, the exchange and protection of information is critical to research, scholarship, and operations. To help our faculty adopt and follow best practices, ITS is offering sessions on file storage in Microsoft 365 and data security.
Register now and join us for two presentations and in-person consultations on December 11th at 10:00 am in McHugh Hall. Refreshments and lunch vouchers will be provided to participants.
Session 1: Where Did I Save That? Practical Skills for Managing Files in Microsoft 365
Designed for faculty, the first session will focus on file storage in Microsoft 365. It will provide you with background information on available services, including when to use each one and why. Then, using the framework of a common scenario for faculty, we’ll demonstrate how to use SharePoint. Attendees will learn how to:
- Choose between OneDrive, SharePoint, or Teams
- Use OneDrive and SharePoint – create and delete sites, move files, manage access & ownership
- Share files internally and externally
In addition to the group presentation, techs will be on-site to answer questions and provide one-on-one support.
Session 2: Cybersecurity and How Our University Defends Against Daily Threats
Universities are prime targets for cyberattacks. Ranging from phishing attempts to data breaches, these attacks are constant and increasingly sophisticated. In this session, our Information Security team will give a “threat briefing,” an inside look into actual and potential threats to the University’s security. They will share:
- How we protect the University
- How our defenses impact institutional policies and practices
- What you can do to safeguard sensitive information and help maintain a secure environment for faculty, staff, and students
You can submit your questions for the Information Security team during registration so that they can tailor the session to you.
After lunch, attendees are welcome to return for additional one-on-one help and consultation with our techs.
